SkillsPlay is committed to protect our users and provide a safe and engaging learning environment. These Editorial Guidelines are designed to maintain the integrity of our BrightGame platform and help us prevent content that is harmful or illegal.

SkillsPlay is designed as an toolset enabling those with knowledge to share it through serious learning games.  As part of our mission to protect and share skills and expertise, we at SkillsPlay work hard to provide a digital platform that is safe.  The platform is used by educators, trainers, employees, students and school children.

The Editorial Guidelines apply to all contributors to SkillsPlay’s BrightGame platform. SkillsPlay reserves the right to remove content in breach of our policies, and to suspend users that do not respect these Editorial Guidelines.

Our values

SkillsPlay values the creativity and free expression of BrightGame users and contributors. At the same time, we recognise how important it is for SkillsPlay to be a place for sharing ideas, best practice, safety and security.

We seek to help learning content creators the opportunity to capture and retain knowledge and expertise to share their approaches and ideas with individuals and communities of users.

Practical

We want users of the BrightGame platform and SkillsPlay services to be able to create engaging and fun games that explore real world situations and aid learning.

Realistic

We want to make sure the games people create on BrightGame are based on genuine expertise and grounded in practical experience.

Protected

We want to ensure that both creators and players feel our services and platform offers a protected and secure space where violence, hate speech and intimidation is absent.

Privacy

SkillsPlay is committed to protecting personal information and privacy.

Inappropriate content

In accordance with our values of facts, safety, privacy and dignity, SkillsPlay does not allow inappropriate content on our BrightGame platform. Below is a list of the content that is illegal or unacceptable and that is not permitted on our BrightGame platform. As a contributor you are obliged to read, understand and respect these guidelines and not publish content that is any of the below:

Violence and Criminal Behaviour

We do not allow content that contains or encourages violence or criminal behaviour. This includes BrightGame games that contain, promote or endorse:

• Violence and Incitement
• Dangerous Individuals or Organisations
• Regulated Goods
• Fraud and Deception
• Terrorism or terrorist acts.

Safety

We do not allow content that may threaten the safety of our users, or that may encourage unsafe or harmful behaviour. This includes BrightGames that contains or are likely to trigger:

• Suicide and Self-Injury
• Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Nudity
• Sexual Exploitation of Adults
• Bullying and Harassment
• Human Exploitation
• Privacy Violations and Image Privacy Rights

Objectionable Content

We do not allow content that is illegal, discriminating or clearly inappropriate or objectionable. This includes BrightGames that involve:

• Hate Speech
• Discrimination or racism
• Cruelty and Insensitivity
• Copyright Infringement
• Illegal use of third party intellectual property, work, ideas or any other unauthorised use of content belonging to others.
• Misappropriation of a person’s name, image or likeness for commercial purposes.

Integrity and Authenticity

We do not accept content or behaviour that threatens the integrity and authenticity of our BrightGame platform, our BrightGame creators and our verified educators. This includes that we do not accept;

• Misrepresentation
• Spam
• Cybersecurity
• Inauthentic Behaviour
• Manipulated Media
• Memorialisation
• COVID-19 Misinformation
• Intellectual Property Infringement

Commercial content

The BrightGame platform shall not be used to post advertisements or promote goods or services. Our BrightGame platform is meant for engaging learning and is not a marketing channel. Therefore, when you publish content on SkillsPlay you shall respect the following;

• We do not allow sales activities, such as advertising, promotions, contests, sweepstakes on our BrightGame platform unless this is expressly authorised by SkillsPlay in an agreement or in your specific BrightGame Subscription.
• You are not allowed to use SkillsPlay to promote your own or third-parties´ goods or services, unless this is expressly authorised by SkillsPlay in an agreement or in your specific BrightGame Subscription.
• Except for the limited license set forth in your agreement we do not allow exploitation of our intellectual property unless this is expressly authorised by SkillsPlay.

Moderation

SkillsPlay has a growing team of trained moderators whose bespoke role is to filter out inappropriate content. We use automated filter software to help block or quarantine content, which is then sent to our moderators for review. The software operates on a comprehensive set of keywords, which are words that are often used with ill intent such as sexist or racist expressions. We continuously work to improve this list of keywords to reflect the ever-expanding nuances of language.

In addition to our filters and moderators, SkillsPlay needs help from our community of users to keep the BrightGame platform safe. Automated filters are never perfect and our moderator team, despite their efforts, will not be able to scan all the content that gets published on the BrightGame Platform.

We rely on our users to respect our rules and guidelines, and to report illegal or inappropriate content that is posted on our BrightGame platform. If you come across content that is illegal, inappropriate or in other ways in breach of SkillsPlay´s values or guidelines, please report this to us immediately. Enforcement

SkillsPlay reserves the right to remove any content that breaches these Editorial Guidelines terms and conditions or acceptable use policy. Content that does not meet our standards may be reported and quarantined, and eventually removed from the BrightGame platform.

We also reserve the right to suspend or remove contributors, including verified users, whose profiles do not comply with our values or that contain content in breach of our Editorial Guidelines.

The consequences for violating our Editorial Guidelines vary depending on the severity of the violation. Consequences range from a single BrightGame being taken down or made private, to banning an account or suspending users.

We thank you for respecting and following these guidelines.
